Viv turns 2!!!

Today was Vivian's birthday party although technically her birthday is Feb 29th, she's a leap year baby! Viv is really into storytelling and pretend things this year, so Davis made her sock puppets for storytelling and I made her a tu-tu for dress up. We also got her a pirate's hat and stickers because she loves stickers!

We had a good time watching Viv in all of her birthday glory. She loved every minute of today and I am sure she will sleep well tonight. Apparently she is a superhero who can put out fire with one touch, she demonstrated this for us today with her birthday candles and no crying. She is one tough kid!

A Night Out

Davis and I had plans to see Valentine's Day at the 21+ theatre 3 blocks from home last night, but as always I forgot my id and they checked so.....we didn't get to see the movie. The theatre is housed in the same building as one of Seattle's most expensive restaurants, El Gaucho, and we had a giftcard to El Gaucho so we decided to stop by and get dessert. It's not really a stop by kind of place so we had to sit in the bar because we didn't have reservations.....IRONIC huh? That we got kicked out of the movies for not having id and went to a bar. The funny thing about the situation is that we didn't even realize that's what happened until we were sitting there sipping our $15 drinks! It turned into a great night of cocktails and chocolate cake at a well to do restaurant that we/I was not dressed for.

Weekend Events

Every weekend we spend the majority of our time with our friends and love every minute of it and this weekend was no different. Friday night was Fajitas and game night at George's. As all game nights it was a blast. We started with Hoopla then Balderdash then Twister and then Apples to Apples. Needless to say we were out until 3 AM, which seems to be the case every weekend!

Saturday we took the dogs to the #8 dog park in North America, ran some errands, and had game night at our place. It was a more chill game night and we only played Mexican Train (dominoes).

Sunday we had a cookout at Farrah's and then we to the park to bask in the sun. We ended up playing volleyball without a net at the park and it was like we were 10 years old again :) Nisha was the only one that took pictures, maybe you will see them pop up on FB.

This week/weekend was also a very exciting week for our home, we designed the final plans for the wall bed and put in the order...in 3 short weeks our wall bed will be installed. We also finished our entertainment piece.

Our VDay Cake

Ingredients of Frozen Chocolate-Covered Cappuccino Crunch Cake:

  • 1 (10 3/4 oz.) frozen pound cake, thawed (Sara Lee)
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 3/4 cups (11.5-oz. pkg.) Milk Chocolate Morsels
  • 4 cups (1 quart) coffee ice cream, softened (We used Chocolate)
  • 1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 3/4 cups coarsely crushed malted milk balls (We used Oreos)
  • Frozen whipped topping, thawed (optional)
  • Coarsely crushed malted milk balls, (optional) (We used Oreos)
  • Directions of Frozen Chocolate-Covered Cappuccino Crunch Cake:

  • Slice pound cake into 1/8- to 1/4-inch slices. Place half of the slices on bottom of 9-inch spring form pan; press down firmly. Set remaining slices aside.
  • Bring cream just to a boil in medium saucepan. Remove from heat. Add milk chocolate morsels; let stand 5 minutes. Whisk until well combined and smooth. Pour half of the chocolate mixture over pound cake in pan, spreading evenly to within 1/4-inch of edge of pan.
  • Cover; freeze for 1 1/2 hours or until chocolate is set.
  • Combine softened ice cream and whipped topping in large bowl. Fold in 1 3/4 cup crushed malted milk balls. Spread over chocolate layer in pan. Cover;
  • Freeze until ice cream is firm, about 2 hours.
  • Top ice cream with remaining pound cake slices; press down firmly. Spread remaining chocolate mixture over pound cake. Cover; freeze at least 6 hours
  • To serve, remove sides of pan. Garnish with additional whipped dessert topping and sprinkle with crushed malted milk balls, if desired. To cut cake easily, run a knife under hot water and dry with a paper towel before making slices.
This was our final masterpiece. I was super easy to make! We don't have a circle pan so ours is square and we only did Oreos on top instead of oreos and whipped cream. It was delicious! :)

Have I Shown You Our View

For those of you that watch How I Met Your Mother, I feel like Barney saying "Have you met Ted?" BUT our view is just so incredible that I feel everyone needs a refresher every once in a while. By the way, can you tell that we love our place?!? Even the dogs love it, they get to play on the roof and patio.

I finished our orangey-red pillows yesterday

I also wanted to share some pictures of laundry day at the Benson household look like.

Heart Day

I love Valentine's Day, actually I love all Holidays because it is the few times a year that Davis will do anything I ask of him or just do stuff because he feels like being nice! He is an exceptional husband, but he does go above and beyond on these occasions and it is soooo nice!

So our day consisted of: sleeping in as always on the weekends, Davis cooking pancakes and doing dishes, eating ice cream cake (we made it the night before), watching TV/playing PS3, Davis going to work with me, playing/reading to Viv, cooking and eating (Sloppy Joes, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese) with Viv, and after Viv went to bed playing games and watching How I Met Your Mother. What a GREAT day! It was so nice that Davis wanted to go to work with me to spend time together, it meant a great deal to me.

Game Nights

We have started weekly game nights in Seattle. This has been a tradition of mine since Sophomore year of college. I love games and I love friends, so game night is a must. Luckily Davis loves games too :)

This past Friday night was game night, since it was a holiday weekend and I knew people had plans on Sunday that did not include games, and it was one of the best game nights yet. What is great about game night is that after it is all said and done, there are certain "quotes of the night" that will live forever. Wonderful memories is what life is about.

Luly Yang

I was selected yesterday to be one of Luly Yang's couture models. The show isn't until May, but it will be a huge production and I am super excited to get to work with Luly. She is an amazing designer! I will keep you posted as time passes and send any photos your way.

Her is a link to her site so you can see her work, Luly Yang.

Super Bowl

As most everyone knows this past Sunday was Super Bowl Sunday.....let's rephrase that, some people knew. I was excited to throw a Super Bowl party because Peyton was playing, but none of our friends care about football and therefore none of them even knew that the Super Bowl this past weekend until I told them the previous week. So they definitely did not know who was playing or cared, but I threw a party anyway (any reason to eat and play games). We had a ton of food and we ended up talking and playing board games instead of watching the football game, but it was on in the background! We had a blast as always, we love hanging out with our friends!

I am a picture fanatic, but I somehow managed to not take a single picture during this event. So as everyone was preparing to leave and walking out the door, I called them all back for a picture. We are minus Kristina, but this was our Super Bowl gang this year. Everyone else was in San Fran for the weekend...losers! They missed an exceptional party!
Ali, Emily, Nisha, Sushil, Me, Belle, Davis, and Beast

While I was preparing for our party, Davis was being a handyman. and a rather AMAZING one! I am soooo proud of his 4 hour accomplishment. You would have to know all of our home improvement stories to fully understand how amazing it was to tackle this feat in 4 hours....I should definitely blog about all of our stories.
He had to rent a hammer drill for the concrete because our walls are concrete in some places and he had to rent a power drill that was powerful enough for concrete. He hung the curtain rod, TV, and bedside shelves. GO DAVIS!
new bedroom, now we are only lacking our wall bed
