Egypt (Safaga, Luxor, and Paradise Island)

Our next port was Safaga, Egypt.  We took a 3.5 hour bus ride to Luxor, aka Thebes.  The Valley of the Kings can be found here.  The Valley of the Kings is just what it sounds like, where all the kings were buried after death.  The tombs were extravagant because they believed that the treasures in the tombs would be waiting on them as they returned in the afterlife.
The hieroglyphics in the tombs were amazing...they were so colorful still after thousands of years...how do colors from nature stay around that long?  The beliefs they had about death and the afterlife, the angels and justice, these were all written in the tombs.  The tombs had to take forever to carve out and write and color, I have no idea how people just didn't give up.  I guess they didn't have much else to do but still such hard work and in the heat...oh, the heat!

Luxor was much cleaner then Cairo, although still dirty and dusty.  The people were more countryside and less modern, especially in dress.  Almost every house had a donkey out front and every donkey was trying it’s hardest to get into whatever shade it could.  Again, the heat!

The vendors apparently had heard of ‘happy hour’, although I don’t think they quite grasp the concept of an hour considering it was happy hour all day long.  They also didn't grasp that happy hour usually means drinks/food.  They were selling trinkets for “Happy Hour” and they would all be yelling "happy hour here".

This is the Valley of the Kings
Inside the Valley, no pictures allowed...I snapped this one quickly.  These are the entrances to the tombs.

Karnak Temple was also on today's tour and wow!  Magnificent, you can read about it here.

you can still see some color

After touring Cairo and Luxor, which required so much time and walking and time and walking, we/I decided it was time for a rest and relaxation beach excursion.  So where else would one go when there is such a thing called Paradise Island?  of course, one would choose Paradise Island.  It sounds so beautiful and relaxing and beautiful.

This is Paradise Island in Egypt.

Although it looks like that, it was still an awesome day of snorkeling, napping, and napping!  The water was so wonderfully clear.  The reefs were good size and there was plenty of sea life of the coast of this island with no life.  No one inhabited this island, everyone was transported there by boat daily...however to my surprise there was running water!!  It was an adventure for sure when we realized we had to get off this boat

where I can sit like this

and onto this boat to actually put our feet on the sand.

But other people are doing it too.  Now we sit/stand like these people.

Luckily for us, we are young and capable.  However, we had many older folks and even a handicapped man on board.  This was a constant on our trip and the people amazed me daily on how much they were willing to do...walk for miles, take a boat to an island in a wheelchair, climb stairs.  These are things I hope I am willing and able to do when I reach their age.  They made is look easy for the most part.

Because I love taking pictures of emergency vehicles in other countries, this obsession also applies to animals, (the big in the states they are blue) mailboxes, and other random things.  It funny to me how things look so different in other countries...however I guess animals look the same everywhere, maybe I just love animals!
They had McDelivery...so did Dubai and Singapore, bizarre!

 ah, what a great day

Phone pics

It's summer!! Summertime = super busy and staying outdoors as much as possible. This means no time to take pictures off camera therefore you are stuck with phone pictures for now.

Since the last post we have traveled back to TN for another wedding, enjoyed quality family time, and started sailing lessons.
This is the first time the pilot has taken me over the University before landing and I was pumped! Look closely for the stadium!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NOLAN AND JONAS

It's a nice day for a white wedding...

It's that time of year...you know, when it seems that everyone is getting married.

As much as I do love weddings, I love weddings more because they are reunions. And last weekend was just that, a reunion of college best friends!
& this is what we do when we get together :)

Gowns, Gowns, and New York City

I was excited, very excited to wake up and get some work completed on Thursday morning because I was hours away from heading to the airport for a girls New York weekend! It definitely lived up to expectations, we had a blast. I am pretty sure we didn't sleep more than 5 hours a night. I guess in a city that never sleeps, you shouldn't either! The main purpose of the trip was to find a wedding dress for Hazel Grace and I can say for certain that the mission was accomplished. The wedding is not until next year so you will not get to see the dress for a long time, but it has been decided and what a relief for HG :)

Thursday night, we landed late so straight to the ACE hotel where we gladly dropped off our suitcases and went downstairs to the oh so convenient Breslin to grab a bite. I had the delicious lamb burger. The fries were served with a cumin aioli sauce and I must say that might have been the best idea ever!

Friday morning we grabbed Stumptown coffee and croissants before arriving at our first appointment. It was at Kleinfield's (boutique where Say Yes to the Dress is filmed). Long story short the first dress she tried on here is the winner!! Many dresses and rankings later we took a taxi to the West Village for brunch. After brunch we were off to find a taxi to take us to Midtown for another appointment. There were dresses tried on, but nothing compared to "the one". This put us into the late afternoon so we did a little shopping before going back to the hotel, toasting champagne, and getting ready for dinner in Tribeca. After dinner, we met up with some of HG's NY friends for drinks in Chinatown followed by drinks in Tribeca. It was a great night chatting and getting to know some of HG's oldest friends.

Cheers to a successful first day ;)

Saturday morning appointments started a little later so we had breakfast first at EAT. Followed by what proved to be the nicest boutique we visited, Vera Wang, where there were tons of beautiful dresses. This is where dress #2 entered the running. After Vera, we had brunch at Sarabeth's in Central Park before arriving at our last and final appointment. Another dress entered the running here, but in my opinion "the one" was still "the one"!

After an extremely long Saturday already, we went back to the ACE for a catnap. We had dinner at an awesome Mexican tapas place in Bowery, followed by drinks and karaoke. The following morning we had a guided run tour around the southern waterfront of Manhattan, which was surprisingly gorgeous and green. This was followed by an amazing brunch and shopping.

A much needed weekend away from the city...

This past week, Davis and the company had their "corporate retreat" in Woodinville. Their definition of corporate retreat means working from 7am-10pm....which was fine by me as long as I could tag along! I joined Thursday night for Cinco de Mayo dinner and stayed for the duration of the weekend. Woodinville is "wine country" in Washington, it is 40 minutes outside of Seattle. It is a small town tucked in a densely wooded area. We stayed at Willows Lodge, which might be the only place to stay. It is a cute dog friendly lodge that Beast and Belle enjoyed as well ;)

Willows has a few house animals, Borage and Basil are the 2 live in potbellies.

Even though we were in "wine country", I can say I didn't taste a single wine therefore we must go back! I did however have an awesome spa day!
